HEADLINE: PETER FRANCIS, JR. HAS DIED
Dec. 8, 2002 Author, lecturer, historian, researcher and one of the most well-known bead enthusiasts on the planet, Peter Francis, Jr. died suddenly while in Ghana on Dec. 8, 2002. No further information is available at this writing. He was the long-time webmaster of theBeadSite.com, the largest beading web portal on the net. I am very proud that my website has been so closely associated with his all these years. I am shocked and saddened. It is a great loss to the beading world.
HEADLINE: WHOLESALERS – PRICE INCREASE
September 2002 The success of the new Wholesale Yellow Pages program has far surpassed my wildest expectations. Listees are currently receiving MULTIPLE DAILY VISITS across the board. The price for a Wholesale listing is now $120 per year, plus a one-time $25 set-up fee for new listings.
HEADLINE: SPONSOR REGISTRATION FORM ERRORS
August 2002 Well, there is definitely something not right with the sponsor registration process. It is intermittent and I cannot find the problem. I suspect server overload but it may be a glitch I haven’t found yet. Everything else seems fine. If you have ever experienced a problem at GuideToBeadwork.com or do in the future, please let me know so I can continue to research the problem. In the meantime, if you are unable to reserve pages even after registering without apparent errors, or do not hear from me within 48 hours, please send your info via e-mail so we can get your banner(s) in place. My apologies for the inconvenience.
HEADLINE: Guide To Beadwork — REPRINTED!
June 2002 Yes, it’s true. Even with the entire contents online, there is still enough interest in the original printed version (which was out-of-print for several years) to justify small print runs. The retail price is $24.95 plus shipping. Quantity discounts available. Write for details.
HEADLINE: NEW SECTION for WHOLESALERS
June 2002 A separate section for bead supply wholesalers has been created. There are several reasons for this. One is to make things easier for our users. Blending wholesale businesses in with retail stores doesn’t make a lot of sense because a user is generally interested in one or the other, but not both. From 1996 to 1999, wholesale-only businesses were not even allowed on the list. This restriction was lifted in 2000. A few unscrupulous businessmen have since been misusing the free nature of our lists. This change is also an attempt to address that particular problem. “Wholesale Only” listings will no longer be free after 31 July, 2002. Wholesale businesses with e-mail addresses which are currently on the list have been contacted, but you can click here for details if you were missed.
HEADLINE: Sponsor Registration Fixed
June 2002 I am SO sorry. Apparently, the site would tell you everything was OK and you were registered but it wasn’t working. This persisted for some months (see Aug 2001). Should be OK now. E-mail me (or do a feedback form) if you have any problems. It’s still going to be awhile before things are totally back up to speed.
HEADLINE: BACK ON TRACK
May 2002 The store lists are back up to speed as of mid May. Much remains to be repaired, especially on my personal site, but I still have a backlog of maintenance to do on GuideToBeadwork.com which takes priority. GTB has remained both popular and (mostly) functional, showing steady growth during my six month “absence”, a pleasant surprise. Thanks to everyone for their patience.
