I apologize for being AWOL. We took our first week-long vacation in 4 years last week, and this week we are playing catch-up.
When you are self-employed like my husband and I, there is no vacation or sick pay. If we aren’t working, then we aren’t getting paid. The week before vacation and the week after we have to work extra hard to make up for the vacation week.
On a good note, we really enjoyed our vacation to Florida’s Forgotten Coast. We went to Port St. Joe’s / Cape San Blas. Very quiet, hardly any people and lots of wildlife. I got some beading in also.
I’ll be back next week with new free patterns!

Herringbone, also known as Ndebele Stitch, is another stitch that looks almost completely different in it’s different techniques. Flat display the classic herringbone patterns, while tubular is great for necklaces and ropes.

This tubular herringbone rope is very simple and beads up quickly. I used this bead woven rope in my Blue Victorian Pendant Necklace and absolutely love the way it feels! All photos are shown with blue beads but I have indicated in the instructions on what beads to use.

Herringbone stitch can be started from either a Ladder stitch start as I demonstrate in this video or from a Herringbone start which I will leave for another video. Each Herringbone stitch involves picking up 2 beads, so your Ladder stitch foundation row needs to be an even number of beads.
I remember having a belt that was bead loom woven as a child. It may have been my mother’s. At some point, it started falling about from too much wear and I was heart broken. Don’t know what happened to it, but today I would be able to fix it or redo it.

DIY Bead Loom Eliminates Many Thread Ends

One annoying thing about using bead looms is the long lengths of warp threads which have to be dealt with after the piece is finished. However, this utterly brilliant tutorial by Kathy Kotinsky eliminates that problem. You’ll see that the warp threads just wraps around the removable knitting needles. You’ll need Google Translate as it is in Russian.
