French Beaded Flowers (7/13/2015)
One the most interesting things about beading is how far back in history it goes. French Beaded Flowers seem to have been started in the 16th century, so this is at least a 500 year old art. It’s fun to think about the women who started this, while you make your own.

There are many tutorials available to make all kinds of flowers. Use them as focals in necklaces, as brooches and hair ornaments. You can also use them for non-jewelry articles like napkin rings, bridal bouquets and home decor. Seed beads are inexpensive unlike Swarovski crystals.
A relatively simple technique that looks simply amazing, French beaded flowers make lovely jewelry, home décor items and bouquet additions. This style of bead craft has roots going back centuries to the European Renaissance and enjoys periodic revivals but is not widely known by most beaders. Varying the size of the beads can take your finished flowers from delicate to substantial, depending on your purpose, but the effect is stunning at any size.

There are so many different ways to make beaded flowers. Some of the most intricate and beautiful that I’ve seen have been done on thin wire in the French style. I decided to figure out a way to do mine with needle and thread instead.
This is how to make basic petals and leaves using the French flower beading technique. Some patterns require other techniques such as loops, the four-row crossover, etc. Remember, as with all of my pages that have a black background, you can view these instructions in your default font and colours with the link near the bottom of the page.

This is commonly called French Beaded Flowers which from what I gathered is the name of the technique used which is threading beads into the wire and wrapping the beaded wire around a foundation row or frame to form the petals. The flowers you can make can be used as a home decor, which is what I’m making this project for, an accessory, a jewelry design, or a beautiful bouquet, I’ve actually seen pictures of bridal bouquets made with beads. So if you think this is a project worth your time, check out how I made these beaded flowers.
