I know… Christmas is over. But it’s never too early to get started on next Christmas. People love getting handmade gifts and your gift could be come some family’s favorite ornament handed down from generation to generation. When you are tired of beading, check out the 25 DIY Nativity Scenes. I’ve been working on a beaded one, but these look faster and easier.

I have seen some very pretty holiday work over the past few weeks, and the pieces reminded me of the one ornament cover I made. This design is my own; I had no pattern. Simple enough, the ornament did spread holiday cheer. This season, I saw several tiny ornaments made up of crystals and Delicas. The patience to do one of these is incredible, but a fellow bead society member had one in our Yankee Swap.

Melony from Mel Designs shares a tutorial showing how to make a beaded and stitched Christmas ornament. The base of the ornament is a felt, with stitched and beaded motifs out of felt and woven cottons. She shows examples with a stocking, a snowman, and a Christmas tree, but any simple Christmas motif will work. You could also fussy cut a design from a cotton print and then add your bead embellishments. It’s all hand-stitching so you can make them while snuggled on the couch watching Christmas movies.
