Free Kumihimo Seed Bead Patterns (5/16/2014)
I recently tried Kumihimo on the foam disk and I loved it. I made 3 necklaces within a week. It was much easier than using a Marudai for the braiding, as I tried several years ago. I see how you can make a lot more kinds of braids on the Marudai, but the disk is so fast and easy, I found it more enjoyable.

Kumihimo is a Japanese form of braid- making. Cords and ribbons are made by interlacing strands. The traditional “tool” is the marudai. It is expensive (relatively) and not portable. The newest “tool” is the foam Kumihimo Disk. It is portable and easy to use. One of our group saw a disk and we were off learning to make Kumihimo braids.

I’ve been making kumihimo braids for YEARS and never tried it with beads until just last week ! Why ? I have no idea why but I am so happy I finally did it too cause I sure was missing out on fun stuff and some beautiful jewelry !
