And so I decided to make my own matching bracelet. And hopefully with this Instructable, you will want to make one too, for yourself or maybe your own Tiny Hands. The right-angle weave (or RAW) technique is relatively simple and the pattern is easy once you get going. Follow along and you’ll see what I mean.

Here’s my latest piece, a quilted wall hanging. The fabric is pieced cotton and silk, and appliqued with bead work. I call it, “Super Right Angle Weave: 18 Patches in 3 Colors and 3 Sizes” because I’m not very creative with titles. Florence suggested I call it “RAW Diamonds,” which I like. The whole piece measures about a square foot, including the border.

One of the most versatile and useful bead weaving stitches ever created is right angle weave. Developed by David Chatt, it is a single needle variation of cross-weave. Using a figure eight stitching pattern, groups of beads are gathered together to form shared rows that can be increased and embellished in every direction with ease. The unique shape of a basic right angle weave unit allows for endless possibilities in three-dimensional beadwork.

One way to minimize the amount of thread showing between beads when you’re stitching in right-angle weave is to pick up extra beads, kind of like buffer beads, on either side of the main color beads. The thread path for this technique takes a little extra thought, but once you get it down, you can create some lovely, lacy beadwork using right-angle weave that you just can’t replicate with any other bead-weaving stitch!

I’d venture to say that right angle weave is one of the simpler stitching techniques, and it provides a great gateway for beginners who want to explore stitching. Several reasons why I like this project: 1) the instructions are exceptionally clear; 2) the project uses two needles – one in each hand, so there’s no left hand right hand issues; 3)the technique is very simple and gives you a feel for using needle and thread with beads, and it initiates an understanding of how other basic stitches are achieved…

Yesterday we presented the diagrams and showed you a simple beaded ring created using Single Needle Right Angle Weave Beading. Since Right Angle Weave is a popular stitch and we highly recommend this stitch to beginners here is a quick way how to build up your right angle weave beadwork projects, the Double Needle Right Angle Weave. Like what I said, Double Needle Right Angle Weave is a quick way of weaving a RAW beading project. With Double Needle RAW you’ll be using left and right threads as you weave…
