Beading Q And A: Finding Local Beading Classes (6/20/2011)

2011 June 20

Sharon asks…

Find A Local Bead StoreCan anyone recommend a great jewelry making class for beginners in Los Angeles?

BeadGal answers:

Check out our list of Bead Stores in California. There is bound to be a store in or near the LA area that has classes. You can also look for any bead shows that visit near you – some have classes. I’ve also seen a variety of bead retreats in California where you can bead or do wirework for any entire weekend.

Betty asks…

Looking For Jewelry making Classes In Riverside, CA?

I’m new to Riverside and would like to find Local Jewelry or Silver Smithing Classes.

BeadGal answers:

Check out our list of Bead Stores in California. You can look for stores by name, city or zip code – you are sure to find a store near you that offers classes. If your nearby bead stores don’t offer more than bead stringing and bead weaving, then you may have luck at your local colleges – look for ones that have fine arts programs – many of them teach metalsmithing, silversmithing, etc.

Donna asks…

Jewelry Making Classes?

I currently make jewelry with beads and other materials but am very interested in learning how to solder, set stones, and do more metalsmithing. I live in Wisconsin, Milwaukee to be exact and don’t know where to find classes or places to buy supplies and learn. Can anyone help me? PLEASE!!!!

BeadGal answers:

Check out our list of Bead Stores in Wisconsin. I did not see one actually listed in Milwaukee, but there is bound to be a store near Milwaukee that has classes. You can look for stores by name, city or zip code – you are sure to find a store near you that offers classes.

You also have the biggest bead show in the world that takes place in Milwaukee every June – the Bead & Button Show. It has tons of classes and the biggest vendor area of any show. Check it out – I believe they have about 700 classes in the time span of a week. I’ve been going for several years now and love it.

You can also contact your local college and ask if has courses.  Or, ask a jeweler. There are some places that might mentor you, or they will know where you can take classes.

Helen asks…

I would like to take some jewelry design/making classes? Where do I look besides Colleges?

I would like to find classes close to me. I can travel to LaGrande OR area, Pullman WA, Walla Walla WA. I have friends in those areas that I can stay with if need be. Any ideas where to look?

BeadGal answers:

I would look for bead stores. They may be able to teach you, or send you on your way to the classes you are looking for.

Check out our list of Bead Stores in Oregon and Bead Stores in Washington. This should help you locate bead stores you can get to or call to find classes.
